Heinrich REIN

Heinrich Rein, who was known in France as Henri Rein, was born on September 19, 1880 in Sierentz, a small village in the Haut-Rhin department of France. He worked all his life as a negotiator or broker, a job that involves acting as an intermediary between two parties. He lived with his family at 16 rue d’Illzach in Mulhouse, also in the Haut-Rhin department. During the war, he fled to Chambéry in the Savoie department. He first lived at 17 rue Bleue, then moved again to 13 rue Bonivard, still in Chambéry. On July 22, 1944, the French authorities, who had initially arrested him in Lyon and interned him on July 11, handed him over to the German authorities, who transferred him to Drancy camp and then deported him to Auschwitz on Convoy 77 on July 31, 1944. He was deported on grounds of his “race”. He died soon after he was taken to Auschwitz.
