Raphaël Benderski was one of the children arrested at the Zysmann boarding house in La Varenne-St-Hilaire (Val-de-Marne department) and deported in convoy 77 at the end of July, 1944.

His birth certificate, containing information about his parents states that his father Borys was born in 1910 in Odessa, Poland (sic), and that his mother Natalia, née Laiman, was born at Rakitna Szlacheckie in Silesia (now Polish) in 1903. Research on the Internet yields Odessa, Ukraine as Borys’s birthplace and Roktne, Ukraine for Natalia, whose maiden name is given as Lehmann.
On the site of the AJPN (Anonymes, Justes et persécutés durant la période Nazi) under the heading “Maison des orphelins de La Varenne”, is found the following entry: “July 22, 1944 Benderski family – Raphaël, born on June 5, 1938 in Nancy, was placed in the La Varenne orphanage after the arrest of his parents, Boris and Nathalie, who were deported in convoy n° 47 on February 11, 1943 and never returned.
Arrested as a Jew, Raphaël was interned at the age of 6 at Drancy and deported to Auschwitz in convoy n° 77, composed of 1300 people, 325 of which were children. He did not come back.
